BASIC DOCUMENTS

Basic set of documents required to obtain a visa:

- completed and signed visa application form:

- a travel document; for the consul to issue a visa, the travel document must contain at least two blank pages and be issued within the last ten years;

- 1 or 2 photographs as required;

- visa fee (the amount depends on the type of visa and the nationality of the applicant; the consular fee must be paid before the visa application is submitted; this fee is not refunded if the visa is refused);

- proof of possession of adequate and valid travel medical insurance for the amount of at least EUR 30,000 or, in the case of a national visa, of other health insurance issued by a relevant institution in Poland (e.g. proof of payment of voluntary health insurance with the National Health Fund).

Note: in cases where the foreigner has insurance issued in connection with his/her legal work, the requirement to have medical insurance (both for a national visa and for a Schengen visa) can be considered fulfilled.

Additional supporting documents:

- purpose of entry (e.g. original work permit);

- possession of sufficient financial means for entry, stay and departure from the Schengen territory or Poland;

- possession of accommodation;

- readiness to leave the Schengen territory (including Poland) after the expiry of the visa;

- other circumstances specified in the application.

Note: The type and number of supporting documents may vary from consular post to consular post; therefore, it is recommended that you contact the relevant consular post directly in order to obtain full information on the supporting documents required for your visa application.

Please note that the consul has the right to ask for additional documents in order to issue the visa.

The waiting time for a visa varies depending on the country whose nationals are applying for such a document. The standard is 15 days from the date of application.

2-If a foreigner applies for a visa in order to perform work, he/she must present in the original:

- a permit to work in Poland or

- a statement on entrusting work to a foreigner entered in the register, or

- a certificate of entry in the register of applications for seasonal work and

- an employment contract (if he/she has one) as well as

- a printout from the Social Insurance Institution (e.g. ZUS RCA) to confirm insurance coverage (if already reported by the employer);

- documents confirming the employer's data (e.g. a printout from the National Court Register or CEIDG).

If a foreigner is exempt from the need to have a work permit, he should, instead of a permit or a statement on entrusting work, present documents confirming that he/she has free access to the labour market in Poland (e.g. a diploma of completion of full-time studies).

Visas obtained in order to perform work are issued for a period of stay that corresponds to the period indicated in the permit or statement, but no longer than the period envisaged for a given type of visa.

Note: In the case of a visa issued in order to perform work on the basis of a statement on entrusting work to a foreigner, the period of stay for which the visa is issued cannot be longer than 6 months during the 12-month period counted from the date of the foreigner's first entry to Poland.
